Daniel McCarthy

Daniel McCarthy is a vice president at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and the editor-in-chief of its magazine Modern Age: A Conservative Review. He is also a regular contributor to The Spectator’s World edition.

He has a long association with The American Conservative, the magazine co-founded by Pat Buchanan in 2002. Daniel was its editor from 2010 to 2016 and is its editor-at-large today.

His writing has appeared in an array of publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, The National Interest, First Things, The Claremont Review of Books, Chronicles, Reason, The Daily Telegraph and The New York Post.

He has been a guest on PBS NewsHour, NPR, the BBC, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, CNN International and other radio and television networks worldwide.

A recognized expert on conservative thought, Daniel has contributed to the volumes Who Rules? Sovereignty, Nationalism and the Fate of Freedom in the 21st Century (Encounter) and The Dilemmas of American Conservatism (University Press of Kentucky). He also wrote the preface to the 2022 edition of Willmoore Kendall’s seminal work The Conservative Affirmation (Regnery).

He has been a visiting fellow of the Center for the Study of Statesmanship at the Catholic University of America, a Lincoln Fellow at the Claremont Institute, and a Graduate Fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

Daniel served as the director of the Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship Program at the Fund for American Studies from 2017-2021. Outside of journalism, he has worked as a senior editor in the publishing industry and was the internet communications coordinator and campaign blogger for the 2008 Ron Paul Presidential Campaign Committee.
