Olympics 2008: Coverage, Controversy and Caricature.
Aug. 8 marks the start of what could be the most controversial Olympiad in decades. Not since the 1936 Berlin games have the Olympics been at the heart of such international controversy, with the host country's humanitarian merits and diplomacy hotly contested throughout media and political circles.

Creators writers and editorial cartoonists prove to be no exception, rather exceptional, in their coverage, commentaries and caricatures of this year's games and the people they involve.

R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. kicks off the controversy today, discussing his boycott of the Olympics -- 20 years in the making -- and what sets this year's games apart from previous Olympics. "What makes the Olympics in Beijing fouler than previous games is the behavior of the Chinese government."

Tyrrell isn't the only columnist talking, though. Just as the Olympics offer a sport -- or a controversy -- for everyone, so too does Creators News Service cover the gamut on the sport of debate.

Lenore Skenazy, herself the center of controversy in recent months, articulates an Olympic New World Order today, replete with adapted games, unique to Skenazy's special brand of humor.

Pulitzer Prize winner Connie Schultz focuses not on the controversy surrounding the Olympics, but on the people affecting this year's games. Disadvantaged youths, small-town support and an unlikely Olympic contender are the heartfelt inspirations for Schultz's recent coverage.

A picture can be worth a thousand words, though. Award-winning cartoonists Bruce Beattie, Steve Breen, Gary Varvel and a host of others draw readers into this year's Olympiad with caricatures and illustrations that both tickle the funny bone and inspire the intellect. No topic is off-limits; every topic is tackled, from China's pollution and human rights policies to the games themselves.

Stay tuned for updates as Creators columnists and cartoonists converge this Olympic season, offering sublime, diverse and enlightened commentary. Whatever the event, wherever the controversy, Creators News Service has it covered.
