One Cheer for Sarah Palin

by Alexander Cockburn

Sure, we know. She's a wolf killer, bear hunter, would-be driller in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She backs the Pebble Creek gold mine, scheduled as the world's largest, right next to the salmon-rich bay after which she and Todd named their second daughter. She tried to get her former brother-in-law bounced from his job as a cop. Nobody's perfect. After all, she was only runner-up in the Miss Alaska competition in '86.

Wolf killer is enough for me. Especially when it involves mowing them down from an airplane if they aren't run to exhaustion and then shot on the ground. Anyone who thinks that isn't enough for a "biberal attack" or that these attacks on her are absurd is missing the point. Pointing at YOU, Cockburn.

You really are over the hill, Cockburn. It's kind of sad. In this country, it's pretty darn easy to take a principled position as long as it fits the right wing agenda. When you do the same from anywhere left of center you risk getting wiped out. Ask the heirs of Martin Luther King. What you call posturing is just the right wing having its way because it has politicians by the short hairs. They are chipping away at our democracy by using ridicule, scorn, and scapegoating. It's a time-honored tradition that Hitler rode all the way to the top.

Great column. She certainly perked up the election. By the way, all this abortion fuss is bogus. Both sides use it to raise money. In fact, if Roe V Wade is overturned, all it means is that an abortion is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Most urban states will not try to outlaw abortion, and in the very conservative states they have already driven out the doctors who provide the service. I am a newly independent voter who had been a democrat for decades.

You can not be serious about this person Sarah Palin? When I hear her voice I want to screem, plus she cant talk very well. Ive known alot of women in my 64 years but this one is really a bomb. Couldnt Sen McCain have found something better? Come on now try to think of some one? I am a Obama supporter for a good reason, he knows what he talking about when it comes to our country. The minute Palin opens her mouth I find that I want to go and hide. I just cannot belive that any one in there right mind would fall foe this bunch.. McCain and Palin, sounds like Im in PAIN..........
