I'm 42 and in love for the first time. I live in a beautiful house with the most kind, generous, sweet and gentle man imaginable. Unfortunately, he's a slob, and it's making me crazy! The worst is walking downstairs in the morning and facing the mess. Aaarrrgh!! It can make me irritable/angry/depressed all day. I've begged and cajoled. Most embarrassingly, I've even thrown a fit. When I pick up after him (I have to — his stuff gets in my way) I feel angry and resentful. He claims he doe ...

This guy might consider joining an Adult Ed class or other activity where he'll meet like-minded potential dates. He should use public transportation when he attends so he doesn't arrive smelly and fragrant. He neednt' be up front with every woman he meets that he doesn't have a car; he need only say that a bike or public transportation suits him for most activities and that he believes it helps the environment - and then add that when he needs a car, he has one available to him. Then, as bigmike said, either rent a car or - if he wants to really impress the gal with his financial security - show up in a limousine.

I think if I wished to date and didn't own a car, I'd rent one. That's still cheaper than owning for a few times it would be needed. No need to lie or be sneaky, but demonstrate that acquiring a vehicle when needed is not a problem

Big Mike is brilliant.
It occurred to me though that perhaps it is not the lack of car that is the real problem, but the abundance of odor.
I'd love to ride a bike more places but, sadly, it's hard to be at ones best when one arrives sweaty and out of breath. My employer doesn't have showers and neither does the restaurant my friends like to hang at for happy hour.
Other thought.... I had a room-mate who was 40+ who only rode a bicycle. Too many DUI's, no license.
