Annie's Mailbox®, October 6
by Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar
Dear Annie: My wife, "Nellie," and I are both professionals in our late 20s with no children. Twice a month, Nellie has a girls night out with three of her friends. Occasionally, they will go to a club or a movie, but most of the time they just play cards.
I recently learned that they started playing a new game called "Lipstick Branding." Each girl applies heavy lipstick and then kisses another girl on a spot that is normally not visible, like the back of the should ...

I suspect "Disbelief" is a conservative Christian. Why is it that so many of these people call themselves "Christians" yet directly contradict the teachings of the Bible?
So many of them seem to be mean spirited, uncharitable, judgmental, hateful and unforgiving... in direct defiance of the good book they so proudly profess to believe in.
I bet this woman would be condemning the poor young woman to hell if she had decided to get an abortion instead of having the child.
In my Church the young lady would not only get a shower, we'd be lining up to help with babysitting when the little one comes along so that Mom could get a break, a job, or whatever else she needs to do to be the best mother she can be.
After all... being a mother is one of the most important jobs the Lord can give you.

Re: WhiteHouseBaribie. It's cute how you assume the letter writer belongs to a certain group, then immediately judge the writer and assign a set of prejudices. All without a shred of hard evidence that any of your accusations are true. Physician, heal thyself.

While Matt has a point that we shouldn't assume the writer was from a certain religious organization, I think it's safe to say that the writer was definitely conservative in her opinion. such conservativeness does not benefit the CHILD, whose welfare should take top priority over everything. White House Barbie, I applaud your organization for its practical, realistic, and compassionate point of view regarding something like this. If more religious organizations were like yours, I might not be an agnostic.

In response to "Even More Disbelief", I am a PROUD Grandmother of a PRECIOUS grandson that was conceived out of wedlock, at first I wasn't very happy about it being brought up in a Southern Christian home myself. But after being with my daughter when she had an ultrasound(which I took her to) at a organization(Gift of Life) in our town that helps young unwed mothers. I went to every doctors appointment & was there for EVERY ultrasound, from the first time I saw my grandson I fell in love with him, forgave my daughter for putting off her life to raise my precious grandson. I thought I was to young to be a grandmother but now you couldn't give me the world on a gold platter for him, he is the light of my life and I thank God everyday for him. He was born early, with an infection in his blood & breathing difficulties, he weighed 7.5 lbs(a big boy for being 1 month early), he was immediately taken to the NICU unit at the hospital where he spent the first 10 days of his life. I am proud to say that now he is 19 months old and a VERY STRONG & HEALTHY toddler and even more the light of my life.
I am appalled at the fact that this person "Even More Disbelief", could be so closed minded as to think that if not for babyshowers(for wed/unwed couples) the children most likely will be the ones to suffer, due to the cost of daily essentials that an infant requires, where do young(wed/unwed) couples cut essentials to provide for their newborns? Not everyone has the family support that can help, so the items received at babyshowers are extremely helpful to young(wed/unwed) couples. Get off your high horse and welcome to the new ages where it doesn't matter if the couples are married or not as long as the childern(in most cases) have parents that love them, provide a home for them & the essentials for day to day living.
